Does it use a chart library?

No. Every style is drawn by the card’s own code, which keeps it small and quick to load on wall tablets, and lets it follow your Home Assistant theme exactly.

Do I have to write YAML?

No. Everything can be set in the visual editor. YAML works too, for those who prefer it.

Will it slow my dashboard down?

The bar and gauge styles only read the current state, which Home Assistant already sends to the browser. History charts fetch past values once and then follow live updates.

Can I ask for a chart type?

Yes — use the New chart type form. Votes on those issues help decide the order on the roadmap board.
